Hey all, I know relationships aren’t that great between law enforcement and the public at the moment, but you being the automotive equivalent of the FBI, I figured you might be able to help track down the killer of a security guard at the Oakland Federal Building.
Turns out my wife knew him well, as she works out of Oakland a few months a year. Would really appreciate it if you can spot anything that might help track down those that were involved. He was a baseball fanatic and all around good guy by all accounts.
FBI has posted a couple of grainy surveillance shots - and of course it’s a white van, but if there’s anything to indicate things like wheelbase, options or whatever to try and narrow the search, that would be great. Also if there’s anything California specific (inspection tags, toll passes, etc.) that you can spot that would be helpful too.
EDIT: Appears to be a pre-2008 standard wheelbase with glass sliding door, similar to the white one below (but the on the standard wheelbase). Hubcaps look to be the same as well :

It’s a Ford Econoline Work Van, probably 1990 to 2000 model. It looks like it has a small running board/step on the passenger side. Rear bumper may be pain ted black, front may be painted silver.

Ford E-Series van, fourth gen. 1992 to 2002 model (03 and later don’t have the Ford badge on the hood) . I wish there was a better quality image of the front so we could better narrow-down the model year window. 92-96 has the egg-crate design, 97-02 has an oval inside the rectangular opening.

Based on the image, it appears to be the oval grille. Hard to say, but I think I see some rounding.

Well, it’s kind of an odd duck. Its a E 250 cargo van similar to below https://www.tradenetequipment.com/classified-for-sale/used-heavy-equipment/Ford/Wake-Forest/27587/2003-Ford-E250-Cargo-Van/H186407E
It looks like its a fleet vehicle in that its real clean for a 15 or more year old work truck. How many work trucks don’t get stickered up? Also it seems odd in that it has a side sliding door with a window. Most of these in my search have sliding doors and no window, or have dual hinged side doors. The rear bumper appears painted black, they were chome or silver paint back then.
The only thing that does not not look right is the front frill in the picture there isn’t the bottom extension into the bumper shown below.

Amber tails went away for 95+. Better pics could get it down to 92-94, 95-96 , or 97-02.

The front plate looks to be in the middle. If so, it’s not the oval grille, since the oval grille had the front plate on the left side.

Could have the bumper from an earlier model, since the bumpers are mismatched.

It appears to be an oval grille but with a mismatched earlier bumper with a center plate. The sliding door with a window is also very rare, especially with the rest of the van having none. Rear bumper doesn’t match the front.
Rear pop open windows make this an even rarer combo. I believe some had fixed windows.
Very few of these were made in that combo and it appears suspiciously clean for a van of its age. Mismatched but dent free bumpers mean it was probably taken care of well and/or a thorough recondition. A local dealer would remember selling a van like that, especially if they were the ones to replace the bumpers. I wish you the best of luck.
